Change of plans

Well it is with a sorrowful heart that I say that Matthew and I have had to change the date of our wedding. His work did not allow his transfer and he will have to stay in the bay area for 6 more months to work on the management training. Since it is in the middle of the school year, I would have to take a leave and try to quickly find a job up north. January 2nd is just coming up too fast to try to take all that on and I have made commitments this year at work I feel bad about just ditching out from. This has been a really hard decision to make. I have waited for 36 years to find someone who I can share my life with and I just want to move forward. I know he feels the same. We have talked and talked and the facts are: It doesn't make sense for him to quit his job and try to find something down here when he has 19 years invested with Safeway. I also have my tenure and it is so tough to find a teaching job anywhere in California. So, we are postponing the wedding till June. This is a random thought but it makes me think of the Depeche Mode song, "I don't want to start any blasphemous rumors, but I think that God has a sick sense of humor". I definetly think this is perhaps the hardest trial I have had to endure yet. It's just torture. I probably sound whiny as I know it could be worse. It's just another 6 months right? Sigh.

Visit

Matthew was able to come for a week on vacation to start looking for a transfer and an apartment for us and it was so wonderful to have him here. I loved having him bring me lunch at work and the kids got a kick out of seeing my future husband. I seemed to find a lot of reasons for having him come and visit me by forgetting my keys and the popsicles for our lunch with the teacher. We were able to get some wedding planning done too. As well as take some engagement photos. At the end of the week is was next to impossible to say goodbye. Matthew's transfer has not gone through yet and so we are still waiting to see what happens there. Fingers crossed it happens soon.

A DATE!

Well, we have finally set a date for our marriage. It is January 2, 2009. We will get married in the Newport Beach Temple. Matthew will be finishing his management training and then be able to transfer to So. Cal and keep his seniority and benefits and such. We are hoping to have him move in November before Thanksgiving. I get frustrated not having him here yet, I just want him around and I know he feels the same. But this is better for his career, so I still have to practice my patience. Sigh.

More great news is that he will be going through the temple for his first time on September 6 in Oakland, California and I and my parents will be there too! I am so excited! I feel so blessed to be able to share this special day with him. I can't wait to sit with him in the temple and think about our future.

School will be starting soon for me and I feel totally unprepared. There is just so much else on my mind right now. I have one more week to pull it all together. I know it will work out, its just so much work and I am having a hard time focusing right now. Go figure!

New Beginnings

I am happy to report that after 1 1/2 years of long distance dating (which I DO NOT recommend to anyone who likes their sanity), Matthew and I are officially engaged and excited to be moving forward in our life together. He proposed on June 20th (my last day of school) at Disneyland, taking me by total surprise.
Hopefully he will be able to transfer with Safeway into a Vons here and manage a store that is somewhere in So. Cal so that neither of our commutes to work is terrible. We will also be looking for a house to buy (great timing on that one -yeah). I am so excited that he is moving here and we can continue to be close to my family. My parents love him because he is so willing to be slave labor (just check out the brick flag pole holder we built in the front yard). Well, I will continue to leave updates as things go forward. Its so fun to start thinking about all the stuff to plan and do to get ready for the wedding. Anyone have any great ideas? I am open to suggestions. :)
